Dept. of Theoretical Physics

A. HEP Direction:

1. Precision calculations for the LHC in the Standard Model and its extensions

• TS. Do Hoang Son, in cooperation with LAPTH, CNRS, France

• Currently, there are 3 students, and 1 graduate student (from Vietnam) participating in the project.

• This collaborative project is part of an international research program on the search for the Higgs boson and spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism in particle physics. This study is closely related to the experiments at LHC. The process of generating Higgs with heavy quarks (bottom or top quarks) is the main research object of this cooperation project.

2. ATLAS-VN project

• Dr. Do Hoang Son, in cooperation with LAPP, IN2P3, CNRS, France

• The goal of the project is to make Vietnam an official member of the international research project on high energy at LHC, CERN.

• The project is in the early stages, training human resources. Currently training 3 PhD students in France (of which 1 from the department), 2 graduate students in France. Beginning in 2008, every year the project organizes the LHCS winter class for students nationwide.

3. XLOOPS-GiNaC

• Dr. Do Hoang Son, in cooperation with LAPTH, IN2P3, CNRS, France and Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany

• Development of a new method and toolkit (XLOOPS-GiNaC) that enables the automatic calculation of one-round modifications to the scattering processes in the particle accelerator at LHC.

B. Bio-Physics Direction:

1. Protein folding:

• Associate Professor Hoang Dung, in cooperation with Warsaw University, Poland

• Researching on the effect of scrolls of proteins on some diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkingson

2. Drug design:

• Associate Professor Hoang Dung, in cooperation with SISSA research center, Italy

• Content:

• Researching mechanisms to inhibit the reproduction of HIV virus in human cells thereby making AIDS medicine.

• Researching the smell mechanism of olfactory organ at the molecular level.

• Currently, the group has 2 students doing PhD programs at SISSA, Italy. The group also organizes annual BIO-Physics classes at HCMUNS.
