2. Module objectives/intended learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the physical processes that take place in coastal and estuarine environments. These include the mixing of fresh and saltwater, disturbance and sedimentation processes, alluvium, and the transmission of tides within estuaries.
The primary focus of the course will be on hydrodynamic processes such as currents, tides, turbidity, and water density variations across aquifers. In addition, the course will cover the classification of estuaries and provide detailed explanations on their characteristics.
Upon completion of this module, students will have achieved the following:
- Knowledge: Students will be able to comprehend the physical processes occurring in coastal and estuarine environments, including the mixing of fresh and saltwater, disturbance, and sedimentation processes.
- Skills: Students will develop the ability to work effectively both individually and in groups, engage in self-study and lifelong learning, and apply problem-solving techniques.
