2. Module objectives/intended learning outcomes
Modeling and Simulation is a course designed to provide undergraduate students with fundamental knowledge for solving and evaluating the results of theoretical and practical problems on computers through: (i) representing (designing) the problem using models, specifically formulas or equations that capture the key characteristics of the problem; (ii) solving (simulating) the model on a computer using appropriate algorithms; and (iii) presenting, analyzing, and evaluating the results. Therefore, the course integrates domain-specific knowledge, mathematical methods, and programming.
The course content is structured into three parts. The first part provides fundamental knowledge for constructing dynamic system models and mathematical methods for solving these models. The second part introduces programming concepts, with a focus on using Matlab, a widely used software for solving engineering problems. The third part applies modeling and simulation techniques to several representative problems.
