2. Module objectives/intended learning outcomes

This course provides students with specialized knowledge of the interactions between electrons, photons, and matter, as well as the emitted signals used in various analytical methods.

Through this course, students will gain an understanding of the structure, operating principles, and practical applications of specific analytical techniques to characterize material properties. These include:

- UV-VIS Spectroscopy for determining absorption, transmission, reflection, and the bandgap of semiconductors.

- Photoluminescence (PL) Spectroscopy for analyzing energy band structures and impurity levels in nanomaterials.

- Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) for investigating surface properties and quantum arrangements.

- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for examining morphology and impurity composition.

- X-ray Diffraction (XRD) for assessing crystallinity.

- Hall Effect Measurements for determining electrical conductivity, carrier concentration, and mobility in semiconductors.

- X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) for identifying chemical bonds and impurity composition in materials.

Additionally, this course familiarizes students with specialized technical English, exposure to international research articles, teamwork dynamics, group discussions, effective presentation skills, and critical thinking. It lays a solid foundation for students as they engage in scientific research projects and prepare for their graduation thesis
