2. Module objectives/intended learning outcomes

This course provides knowledge of crystallography, including lattice structures, crystal systems, Bravais lattices, and symmetry groups of crystals in space. It introduces the structures of several typical semiconductor crystals, such as GaAs (sphalerite structure), CdS (wurtzite structure), and diamond.

The next section covers X-ray diffraction in crystals, introducing experimental methods and the structural information that can be derived from these techniques.

Additionally, the course guides students in representing physical quantities using tensors and applying second-order tensors to analyze physical effects in crystals, such as electrical conductivity and light propagation in transparent, non-magnetic dielectric crystals.
