2. Module objectives/intended learning outcomes
This course provides students with specialized knowledge of photonics and semiconductor materials and their applications. It covers fundamental concepts such as the energy band structure of semiconductors and their optical properties, including absorption and emission processes.
The course also introduces optical methods for studying semiconductors, such as transmission spectroscopy, reflection spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Additionally, it explores the optoelectronic properties of notable semiconductors and examines key optoelectronic devices, including diodes, photodiodes, and transistors.
Students will also gain insight into semiconductor fabrication technologies, including physical and chemical methods, and will conduct a laboratory experiment on the fabrication of transparent thin-film semiconductor materials.
Furthermore, the course enhances students' teamwork, group project management, and presentation skills, helping them build a strong foundation in semiconductor materials while improving their ability to deliver research presentations for their thesis and graduation reports.
