2. Brief description of the subject

This foundational course provides students with a basic understanding of Astrophysics. Topics covered include Kepler's laws of planetary motion, Newton's law of universal gravitation, celestial coordinate systems, diurnal motion of stars, the Sun's motion along the ecliptic, seasonal variations and climate zones, time measurement, the Moon's motion, tides, solar and lunar eclipses, the formation of the solar system, the Sun's properties and characteristics, the properties and characteristics of planets in the solar system, stellar distance measurements, stellar properties (temperature, size, color, etc.), stellar evolution, the life cycle of a star, the formation of galaxies, galactic structure, and galactic classification.
