  1. Brief course description:

The course introduces the basic mechanical, thermal, electrical and optical properties of intrinsic, lightly doped and heavily doped semiconductors, covering the following:

  • The mechanical part gives students basic and more advanced knowledge of defects in solids and of the mechanical properties of solids and semiconductors.
  • The thermal part covers the thermal vibrations of the crystal lattice of solids..
  • The optical part provides specialised knowledge of the optical properties of solids in general and of semiconductors in particular.
  • Finally, students are introduced to the density of states and electron localisation in semiconductors.
