  1. Brief course description:

This course covers the design flow for VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) circuits and the electrical characteristics of each circuit element. Students learn the physical-design flow and its direct effect on circuit performance, area, reliability, power and manufacturing yield, and apply the basic principles of CMOS logic to integrated-circuit design. The main steps of the VLSI design flow are covered, with emphasis on physical design: partitioning, chip planning, placement, clock network synthesis, routing and timing closure. Physical verification ensures the logical and electrical correctness of the VLSI circuit, including Design Rule Check (DRC) and Layout Versus Schematic (LVS).
