- Brief course description:
The course covers the band structure of semiconductors and the energy structure of metal–semiconductor, semiconductor–semiconductor and semiconductor–electrolyte interfaces. It describes charge- and mass-transfer processes at contact boundaries according to Marcus and Gerischer theory, and presents the mechanism of light-energy conversion in photoelectrochemical systems. The course introduces and practises basic experimental techniques in semiconductor electrochemistry, such as band-gap measurement, current–voltage characterisation and electrochemical impedance measurement.
