2. Module objectives/intended learning outcomes

This course provides students with fundamental knowledge of lighting technology, with a particular focus on solid-state LED lighting technology. It emphasizes the analysis of light source characteristics and spatial light distribution.

The course covers fundamental concepts and principles of lighting optics, including basic photometric quantities and measurements, photometry, luminous efficacy, light quality, relevant optical laws, and the characteristics of common light sources. Students are also introduced to light source modeling and lighting system development, as well as lighting standards and requirements for residential, commercial, industrial, and public applications.

In addition, the course explores emerging trends and applications such as smart lighting and energy-efficient lighting. Upon completion, students will be able to analyze, evaluate, and select appropriate lighting solutions for practical applications.
