1st OPEN SCIENCE DAY OF THE FACULTY OF PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING PHYSICS - 2023

1st OPEN SCIENCE DAY OF THE FACULTY OF PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING PHYSICS - 2023

On Sunday, May 14, 2023, at the University of Sciences - Vietnam National University-HCM, the Open Science Festival took place organized by the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics. The festival took place with the participation of nearly 300 guests who are businesses, lecturers, teachers, students, pupils and parents.

At the festival, everyone was very excited to see models, physics experiments, geology, and telescopes from the booths of the Department of Physics and Geophysics, the Department of Geology, the PTNK Steam Club, the NES Academic Club and USAC. In addition, more than 70 students from high schools and middle schools visited the nuclear physics, computer science, Earth science, Applied physics and oceanography laboratories. The students were really impressed when they were able to directly observe devices that were previously only known through books and understand how physics has practical applications in life.

A special part of the Festival is reports on basic Astronomy including:

- Astronomical basis of calendar (Master Pham Vu Loc - Vietnam Space Center): how the calendar was born, concepts of celestial sphere, ecliptic, spring equinox, autumn equinox, precession... schedule and adjustment method.

- Mysterious black holes and how to find them (Mr. Ngo Ngoc Hai - Oxford University research team): what are black holes, types of black holes and detection methods.

- Exoplanet search methods (USAC Club): scientists have used imaging, gravitational lensing and transit methods with different advantages and disadvantages to hope to search for exoplanets planets have life.

- Orbits of space telescopes (Nguyen Pha Le - Former head of USAC): why do we have to send telescopes to space, the physical basis of calculating the orbits of the Hubbles and James Webb telescopes.

Due to limited time, much knowledge and information about astronomy is still a strange and attractive land for many young people present at the festival. In the coming time, the Faculty of Physics and Physical Sciences will organize more similar festivals to bring science closer to everyone, thereby stimulating the curiosity and learning of students.
