The traditional day of the Faculty of Physics - Engineering Physics in 2023

On May 7, 2023, in Lecture Hall 1, the Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics, in collaboration with the Alumni Association, successfully organized the Traditional Day of the Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics 2023. Numerous esteemed generations of professors, teachers, and alumni returned to gather, express gratitude, and contribute to the development of the department.

To share joy in the festive day, there was the presence of Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Cao Vinh, an alumni of the department, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the University Council; Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Le Quan, the Rector; Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Minh Triet, the Vice Rector; Associate Professor, Doctor Lam Quang Vinh, an alumni of the department, Head of the Science and Technology Department of the University; and many professors and leaders from various units, faculties, and departments within the University. Particularly, the honored event welcomed Associate Professor, Doctor Huynh Thanh Dat, a Central Party Committee member, Minister of Science and Technology, who returned to the place where he had been closely associated with since his student days until becoming a lecturer at the University. In his speech, he expressed gratitude to the esteemed professors and teachers of the Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics and expressed a desire for the alumni community and the department to establish a scientific development fund to support future students and lecturers.

The Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics is one of the oldest departments with a rich history at the University of Sciences, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. With a history of formation and development spanning over 80 years, the Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics is a strong unit in both fundamental and applied research. Currently, the department offers education in five undergraduate majors, including Physics, Oceanography, Nuclear Engineering, Medical Physics, and Electronics and Computer Technology. Among these, Physics serves as a fundamental scientific discipline, playing a foundational and crucial role in various fields such as environmental science, astrophysics, information technology, materials science, and electronics. The remaining majors are oriented towards application and technology to best meet the needs of society.

The traditional day took place in a warm atmosphere with the enthusiastic participation of esteemed alumni. This special day provides each of us with the opportunity to return, reunite, and express gratitude to the generations of teachers, meet friends, and reminisce about cherished memories in the university lecture hall. It witnesses the development of the department, fostering collaboration and growth. Many alumni of the Physics Department currently hold significant positions in government agencies and companies, serving as inspiring examples for current students, motivating them to excel in their studies. All alumni agree that the knowledge and skills acquired from the respected teachers in the lecture hall have provided a solid foundation for their future development.

Before the traditional day event, several activities were organized to lead up to the celebration with the aim of connecting generations of alumni and current students. These activities included the Alumni Physics Football Tournament, the Alumni Physics Open Tennis Tournament, and the Open Science Day.

The Alumni Scholarship Fund has been established and developed to support students facing financial difficulties but who are determined to excel in their studies. This is a highly meaningful initiative, demonstrating the concern of previous generations for the current students studying at the Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics. After careful consideration and selection, the department has agreed to award 12 scholarships from the fund to deserving students.

Additionally, during the ceremony, the introduction of the Alumni Representative Board for the Physics Community took place with the common goal of collectively contributing to the development of the alumni community in the field of science at the University of Natural Sciences, and specifically within the Faculty of Physics – Engineering Physics. The Alumni Representative Board consists of individuals from various graduating classes, facilitating easy connection with other alumni from different years. This initiative aims to strengthen the bond and collaboration within the physics community and contribute to the overall advancement of the university's scientific community.
