The Faculty of Physics & Engineering Physics will organize a seminar entitled “Topics in Cosmology”, providing an academic forum for students to engage with researchers and experts in astrophysics and cosmology. The seminar will offer participants an opportunity to explore contemporary research topics in cosmology, supermassive black holes, and astrophysics, while engaging in academic discussions with experienced speakers.
Speakers and Key Topics
1. Dr. Nguyễn Trọng Hiền - Former Lecturer at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), USA.
The presentation will examine the role of relativity theory, as well as observational and experimental efforts, in the study of cosmology. The speaker will also share perspectives and open discussion around the question: “How can we contribute to research in the field of cosmology?”
The seminar will provide an open environment for students to ask questions, share their academic interests, and explore potential research directions in astrophysics and cosmology.
2. Lê Nguyên Tuân - Graduate student at the Faculty of Physics & Engineering Physics.
Entitled “Measuring Supermassive Black Hole Masses and the Galaxy Co-evolution Picture: Dynamical Studies from the Galaxy Dynamics Lab,” the presentation will introduce research activities at the Galaxy Dynamics Lab, University of Michigan, USA, with a focus on extragalactic astrophysics and black hole dynamics.
The presentation will highlight the application of stellar and gas dynamical models to high-resolution observational data obtained from modern astronomical facilities, including JWST, HST, ALMA, and Keck. These approaches enable precise measurements of supermassive black hole (SMBH) masses and provide insights into the co-evolutionary relationship between black holes and their host galaxies.
