On September 24, the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics successfully hosted the International Workshop on Photonics in Semiconductors and Quantum Materials, bringing together researchers, faculty members, and students, along with invited speakers from Japan and Taiwan. The workshop served as an academic platform for knowledge exchange, discussion of recent research advances, and the strengthening of connections across the fields of photonics, semiconductor materials, and quantum materials.
Featuring nine in-depth scientific presentations, the workshop highlighted emerging research directions in photonics and advanced materials. The presentations covered a broad range of topics, including Density Functional Theory (DFT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for materials research; Raman Spectroscopy and Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS); two-dimensional (2D) materials; plasmonics; photovoltaics; and photocatalysis.

The scientific discussions extended from fundamental studies of light–matter interactions to potential applications in sensing, energy, photovoltaics, and photocatalysis. These discussions highlighted the growing role of advanced materials and photonic technologies in addressing emerging scientific and technological challenges, while also demonstrating the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of research at the intersection of physics, materials science, and photonics.
Beyond the presentation of recent research findings, the workshop provided an open and engaging academic environment for researchers, faculty members, and students to exchange scientific perspectives, discuss emerging research directions, and share insights from diverse research backgrounds. The discussions fostered meaningful connections among research communities while providing students and early-career researchers with valuable opportunities to engage with contemporary topics in photonics and advanced materials.

The participation of invited speakers from Japan and Taiwan further contributed to strengthening international academic exchange and expanding research networks within the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics. Through academic activities of this kind, the Faculty continues to foster a dynamic research environment that encourages knowledge sharing and creates opportunities for meaningful connections among researchers from Vietnam and the international scientific community.

The International Workshop on Photonics in Semiconductors and Quantum Materials represents one of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics’ ongoing efforts to advance scientific research, strengthen international collaboration, and foster academic connectivity. The knowledge exchanged and connections established during the workshop are expected to provide a foundation for further research activities, academic exchange, and collaborative initiatives in photonics, semiconductor materials, quantum materials, and other areas of advanced materials research.
