Implementing the development strategy of Vietnam National University-HCM
In his opening speech, the Rector of the University of Sciences said that at the university level, as of June 2023, the total training scale of the University is 15,137 students in 30 training programs and 17 majors. In recent years, to meet the needs of society and learners, the School has opened new undergraduate majors such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electronic Physics Technology and Informatics, Management, Natural Resources and Environment Management.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Le Quan, to implement the Development Strategy of VNU-HCM for the period 2021-2030, the University of Sciences is working with member schools in the VNU-HCM system to build a project to open a training major in Design. Circuit design at the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications and Semiconductor Technology at the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics.
“Even though they are two new majors, these are the traditional research directions and training majors of the University in the Electronics department, Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, and Semiconductor Physics, Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics" - the Rector explained.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam - Deputy Director of VNU-HCM, said that the Draft Development Strategy of VNU-HCM for the period 2021-2030, vision 2045 has identified the goal: Becoming a system Top research university in Asia, where talent converges and spreads Vietnamese knowledge and culture. In particular, there is a strategy to promote research, development and application of interdisciplinary science and technology to solve national, regional and world tasks with the specific goal of developing VNU-HCM to become a center The research and innovation center in the fields of semiconductor technology, biotechnology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) is among the leading in Asia. Deputy Director of VNU-HCM acknowledged the efforts of the University of Natural Sciences in quickly building a training program on circuit design and semiconductor technology.

Rewarding many excellent new students
At the Opening Ceremony, the valedictorians, salutatorians, and students with excellent achievements in the 2023 university admission period of the University of Sciences were commended and awarded scholarships. There were 7 students with high achievements in the admission exam who were granted scholarships equivalent to 4 years' tuition fees.
This school year, the School welcomed Phan Le Thuc Bao - the School's valedictorian according to the admission method based on the rated capacity exam score, and also the valedictorian of the 2023 National University-HCM Qualification exam with 1,133/1,200 points. Thuc Bao studied in the Advanced Program in Computer Science. In addition, Tran Nguyen Thanh Danh - former student of High School for the Gifted, Bronze Medalist in the 2023 International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), became a new student majoring in Computer Science.
Every year, the National University-HCM Development Fund mobilizes funding to award valedictorian entrance scholarships at member training facilities under the National University-HCM. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Fund offers two scholarships to the University of Sciences, each worth 30 million VND from the sponsor, Vietcombank Ho Chi Minh City branch. The two students receiving scholarships are valedictorian Phan Le Thuc Bao (score evaluation method of rated capacity) and valedictorian Doan Quang Thang (score evaluation method of high school graduation exam).
